Reggae Rise Up Florida closes out Rise Up Sunday Sessions at Jannus Live with stacked series finale featuring Collie Buddz, The Movement, The Hold Up, JungleManSam, and Inna Vision — Sunday, October 23rd
St. Petersburg, FL — On Sunday, October 23rd, Reggae Rise Up Florida will host their Rise Up Sunday Sessions series finale at Jannus Live in Downtown St. Pete, Florida. The nationally recognized production and promotion company is known for large scale annual Reggae Festivals in both Utah and Florida and hosted a successful concert series this summer at Jannus Live.
Headlining the series finale is Caribbean dancehall artist Collie Buddz. Born in New Orleans but raised in Bermuda, Collie Buddz is best-known for his infections chart-topping hit “Come Around”. As the reggae anthem was dominating the Jamaican charts rapper Busta Rhymes cut his own, unauthorized, remix which propelled the track’s airplay on American radio. After providing guest vocals on a remix of Beyoncé’s “Ring the Alarm”, Collie Buddz began his relationship with Sony. He released his second single, “Mamacita,” and his self-titled debut album on the label in 2007. Since then Collie Buddz has released an extensive list of singles and two EPs — “Playback” in 2011 and “Blue Breamz” in 2015.
Opening up for Collie Buddz is an impressive list of emerging talent in the growing domestic reggae scene including The Movement, The Holdup, JungleManSam, and Inna Vision. More on each band:
Formed in 2004 by a trio of Sublime and Pixies fans, Joshua Swain, Jordan Miller, and John Ruff, aka DJ Riggles, launched The Movement with their “alternative reggae” debut album, On Your Feet. In 2008, the group met Chris DiBeneditto, a Philadelphia-based producer who had worked with like-minded acts such as Slightly Stoopid and G. Love & Special Sauce. Relocating to Philadelphia, they recorded Set Sail. The Movement expanded with the addition of Jason “Smiles” Schmidt on bass and Gary Jackson on drums. In 2012, Miller left the group, and the trio, now fronted by Swain, released their fourth album Side By Side, debuting at #2 on the Billboard Reggae Chart. In 2014 The Movement released Beneath The Palms, a surprise acoustic album as a free gift to fans. The band recently joined the Rootfire Cooperative and released their sixth album, Golden, in April of this year. The Holdup is a California-based Reggae band with heavy Hip Hop and Pop influences. The group has released five full-length albums to date, all of which were written and produced by frontman Mike Garmany. Their heavy urban appeal has led to features on Mac Miller’s “MostDope” blog and 2 Chainz’ “Most Expensivest Shit” video series presented by GQ. Be it solo or backed by a full band, JungleManSam’s dynamic sound can be described as a blend of Pop, Dance, and World music that incorporates elements of Dancehall, Soca, Reggaeton, and Hip Hop. From Toronto, JungleManSam credits his influences to major recording artists such as Major Lazer, Machel Montano, Sean Paul, and the legendary Robert Nesta Marley. Profoundly inspired by his personal adventures throughout Latin America, JMS has crafted a collection of songs that capture both the energy and mystery of the exotic locations he visited during his travels. As a songwriter, JungleManSam strives inspire a sense of wanderlust, taking his listers “there” by sharing the cultural flavors of the places he has been and the stories of the people he meets. A decade after Inna Vision was born on Maui, the Roots Reggae band continues to motivate and elevate consciousness by spreading Aloha and positive vibes all over the world. They have evolved from the slow-trance chord progressions that are the foundation of Roots Reggae by blending the upbeat influences of contemporary Reggae, Dancehall and Hip Hop. Founded in 2005 by lead singer and bassist Koa Lopes, Inna Vision has played across North America with their friends Tribal Seeds, Fortunate Youth, New Kingston, and The Steppas. They’ve shared stages with the likes of Damian Marley, SOJA, Rebelution, Collie Buddz, and more.
