Sunset on St. Pete Beach

The Green Flash Of A Sunset

Zack & Krystal Arnold

By Krystal Arnold

Ask any local or return visitor of St. Pete Beach, and they will probably answer that the best thing about St. Pete Beach is the postcard worthy sunsets we have daily. Each one is different in its own regard-bright blues and golds one night, fluorescent purples and pinks the next. Whether it be on one of the many rooftop bars, or toes in the sand breathing in the salt air, the sunset views are breath taking and un-comparable to anywhere else.

Enjoying the view by boat, beach or poolside bar are some of the favorites of St. Pete Beach guests, though, having a sunset colored cocktail in your hand, like an infamous Rum Runner, sets a tone of pure relaxation that just can’t be beat. Ask any local in the area if they get “tired” of the sunsets, and they will tell you, that like each and every day, each and every sunset is unique all in its own.

Now, just before the last bit of that orange glowing ball vanishes beneath the horizon, keep a keen eye, as there is something rare to be seen: The Green Flash. The Green Flash is a phenomenon in which part of the sun can be observed suddenly and briefly changing color-green! It usually lasts only a second or two — which is why it is dubbed the flash — as the sun changes from red or orange at sunset. If you have the chance to witness a green flash, your love for the St. Pete Beach sunsets will grow even stronger, and you will yearn for the chance to catch another flash, but sunset goer beware, one too many Rum Runners can make catching the flash quite a task!
