HOME PAGE - HELP PAGE!!!

The Home Page is pretty straight-forward. Think of it as the front page of a newspaper, only with interactive buttons along the left side and text links along the top. Much of the navigation on this site is done with the header and left column links, but an equal amount is done on the content part of the page too. The header and navigation column are discussed on the "Site Help" page, so we won't go into it again here.  We're going to concentrate on the content section navigation.

Every Picture Tells a Story....Don't it?...

Every picture on the home page is a link to whatever that picture represents. Click on the calendar and you go to the calendar, click on the baby turtle and you go to the video of the baby turtle, etc. Almost every picture is a link. Hover the cursor over the picture and if it's a link, it will tell you where clicking on it will take you.

The Left Column...

The home page is divided into three columns. The left one is for Local Events (things to do) and always begins with the St. Pete Beach Calendar. Beneath the calendar are upcoming events that we think you might be interested in. Click on either the picture or the red underlined text for details. If you think an event should be featured on our home page, let us know.

The Middle Column...

The middle column is where you'll find articles about practically any subject, as long as there is a local angle to it. Just like a newspaper, the whole story is not on the front page. What you see is a small photo and a very brief description of the story. That way you can quickly browse to see if you might be interested. If you want to read the article, click on the photo or the red underlined text and you go directly to that article. Articles in the middle column are dated and always posted on top and work their way down the column as time goes by and newer articles are posted above them. At the bottom of the middle column there are two links related to articles. The first one takes you to past articles that are no longer on the home page (also called Article Archives). These are also dated and posted "newest on top" so you will find them in the same order as they appeared on the home page. The second link at the bottom of the home page allows you to search for a specific article. If you don't know the name of the article, just type in a key word relating to that article. Say you want to find an article on bald eagles. Type in "bald eagle" and click search. The search engine will search through all the articles and report back to you any article containing the words "bald eagle". If more than one article mentions bald eagles, each article will be reported.

The Right Column...

The Right Column features Things To Know and contains useful information like the weather right on top of the column. Basic weather information is written on the icon, click on it and you go to our weather page for a much more detailed look at the weather. Beneath the weather link is a small menu box containing shortcuts to various places around the site. These will change periodically as we add more and more to the site and interesting new things are added. This column will contain short little bits of information, not in depth details like the articles in the center column. Take the photos of the manta ray sighting off Pass-a-Grille as an example. It's in the right column because it's a link to photos of the sighting. If and when there is a story to go along with the pictures, that's when it will appear in the middle column.
