This part of the website has been developed to familiarize users with how to find and use the many different parts of this site. We have worked very hard to make it easy to use, but some areas of the site are so large that there's still the possibility of getting lost in the mountain of information. And as the site continues to grow, easy and intuitive navigation will be even more important. Below is a brief description of how to get around without getting lost and how to use "Help Mode". To return to the site at any time, click either of the "EXIT HELP" buttons. How to use Help Mode...By the simple fact that you are reading this page, we can assume that you've already found the "Help Page". But this is much more comprehensive than an ordinary help page. It's actually a "Help Mode" that turns your computer into an interactive tutorial on how to use this particular website. While in the "Help Mode" section of the site, all links take you to the various "Help Pages". For example, in normal operation, the "Photo Albums" button on the left will take you to the page containing the photo albums. But while in "Help Mode" that same button takes you to the "Photo Albums Help Page". There you'll find information specific to using the Photo Albums page. It's the same for "Businesses", "Calendar" or "Nature Articles". We have dedicated an entire page to explaining the operation of each section of this site. Just remember, you have to be in "Help Mode" to get the help. And to get into Help Mode, just click the "Site Help" button in the main navigation column on the left. To return to the site at any time, click either bright red "EXIT HELP" button just below the page header. The Main Navigation Column...The blue buttons on the left of every page in the site are your main navigation tools. They take you to just about every area of this website. Click on the "Things To Do" button and you go to a page full of things you can do on St. Pete Beach, from shopping to dining to movies to fishing and the list goes on and on. Click on the "Calendar" button and you'll go to the events calendar, etc. The main navigation column is always on the left and never changes. Navigation in the Page Header...There are also navigation links in the header bar. The words "News" "Weather" "Movies" and "Search" are text links. Click on them and you will go to whatever the text says. Navigation links in the page header are also constant and never change. Many Photos are also Links...Whenever you see a photo, move the cursor over the picture. If it's a link, text will appear directing you to click for more information, or a larger image, etc. An example would be the photo of the heron in the upper right corner of the header. That photo is a link to the latest Nature Articles. Some photos contained within articles may be links to larger copies of that photo so you can get a better look. If the photo is a link, there should be some pop-up text appearing when you hover the cursor over the picture. Text Links throughout the site...In addition to the text links in the header, there are also text links scattered throughout the site. This is not done to make them harder to find. It's done this way to place them where you would logically need to use them. For example, in an article you may see a word or phrase that is unfamiliar. Clicking on it will take you to more information about it. To make these text links easy to spot, they will be a dark red color and will almost always be underlined. Every instance of red text might not be a link, but as a rule of thumb, if it's dark red and underlined, you can pretty much click on it 99% of the time. |
