Cleo's
Corner (7.09.10)
The Dunes love seaweed.
If you walk out on the beach these days you will see a few places
with great dunes covered with sea oats and railroad vine. Other
places are skimpy and bare. These photos were taken between 1st
Avenue and 6th in Pass-a-Grille on the Gulf side.

The dunes on the bay side, however, are doing fine.
Could it be that the dunes on the bayside are doing
so well because no one rakes their food up and dumps it in the
water? The question I ask is, “Why don’t we at least
dump the food near the dunes that need it instead of into the
water where it just clumps up and goes back to sea?”

Off
I go into the wild blue yonder. Actually, I am going
to Stockholm, Sweden to visit with friends, do some pottery, ride
a few ships around the islands and generally take a holiday. While
I am gone, Cory Chlapowski will take care of the website, my dog,
Rhino and my life!!! I’ll keep you updated on the latest
and greatest from Europe as I try to stay warm (I will think of
our warm water and sand often.)
Many people don’t realize that Sweden has approximately
42,000 islands off shore in the archipelago with ships taking
people here and there. I will actually be living on Voxholm Island
for the first two weeks. It is picturesque and very Swedish.
Have a wonderful summer, keep the beaches clean (do you hear that
oil?...stay away from here!) and enjoy our very special water.
Don’t forget to check out the new restaurant Oscar’s
(go to Businesses, Restaurants, All Restaurants, Oscar’s
to find it) as well as the Healthy Hut which is fully stocked
and waiting to fix you the best portabello, eggplant, hummus wrap
you will ever eat! Vida de Café is preparing take-home
food that is fresh, delicious and stores well for days. Enjoy
and I'll see you in the fall.
