(4.27.10)

Tierra Verde- Tampa Bay Watch will host the fifth annual Ed Alber Tarpon Rodeo all release fishing tournament on June 11 &12 with cash and prizes totaling $5,000. Anglers will fish their favorite spots throughout Tampa Bay from one mile offshore running north to Redington Fishing Pier and south to Longboat Pass. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Tampa Bay Watch, a nonprofit organization active in protecting and restoring the marine and wetland environments of the Tampa Bay estuary and educating the community about environmental stewardship.

The tournament festivities will kick off at Tampa Bay Watch Community Center in Tierra Verde on Friday, June 11th at 5:30 p.m. with registration and dinner provided by Carrabba’s Italian Grill. The Captains’ meeting with a live and silent auction will follow at 7:30 p.m. Families are encouraged to attend as it will be a fun evening! The main event gets underway Saturday, June 12th at the Fort De Soto boat ramp with a shotgun start at 6:30 a.m. and fishing continuing until 3:00 p.m. The Awards Ceremony will be held at the Tampa Bay Watch Marine Center at 4:00pm. The tournament is limiting entries to 35 boats, so it is sure to fill up fast with anglers who love to fish, catch and release! To register, please call Tampa Bay Watch at 727-867-8166 or visit www.tampabaywatch.org

Several sponsorship packages are available at various levels from $1,000 to $5,000. This is a great opportunity for businesses to gain exposure through being associated with this highly visible tournament; registration is limited to sponsors until June 1st. Persons interested in registering their individual boat into the tournament must call Tampa Bay Watch and be put on a waiting list. If space permits, those who are on the list will be contacted after the June 1st deadline and will be allowed to register. The cost is $500 per boat registration, which also includes dinner and tournament t-shirts for each angler aboard boat (maximum of 4). Click here for sponsorship details.

This year there will be the introduction of an Amateur Division to the Tarpon Rodeo. This division is open to Bronze Sponsors ($1,000) and individual boat entries. Gold ($5,000) and Silver ($2,500) sponsors will be eligible to compete in the Professional Division. Like in previous events, tarpon and shark (minimum 24”) are eligible. The winning boat will be determined by total number of tarpon or shark legally released per boat.
