1997,
My fondest memories of Joe are when I would go down to 10th Avenue and
the Gulf where we all gathered in the evening to watch the sunset and
talk. Joe always had a joke, his wonderful laugh and lots of love to
spread around to everyone...friend and stranger alike.
One day I decided we needed a bell to ring at sunset so I went and found
one in an old antique shop in St. Petersburg. When I took it to Bernie
who leased the Grille from the City, he said he'd get "the guys" to put
it up. And sure enough, they did, Joe being one of the "workers."
After that he and Joan, his wonderful wife, would come down and watch
people ring the bell and tell his stories. I loved Joe. We all did. And
sometimes when the sun is setting I can see his face, laughing, and I
know all is right with the world.
